Sample training course
We focus on a few simple themes, such as:
- Decide what you want to achieve.
- Organise your thoughts.
- Write for your reader, not for yourself.
- Simplify your language.
- Make it look easy to read.
Two half-day sessions might look like this:
Session 1 - Write with purpose, consider your reader
| Exercises | Learning points |
| Ask yourself: What am I trying to achieve? Who will read this? How do I ensure they get the message? Rewrite sentences selected from your own work. |
Define your purpose. Avoid jargon. Use fewer words. Be specific. Use more verbs. Write in the active not the passive. Construct strong, simple sentences. |
Session 2 - Organise your information, make it look easy to read
| Exercises | Learning points |
| Look critically at one of your reports or web pages. Plan a new document. Write the content. Format it to make it easy to read. |
Plan your writing. Structure your information. Use white space. Make one point per paragraph. Guide your reader with headings and subheadings. |
All our training is tailored to your needs. If you would like a course similar to this using your own material, or something different, contact Clarity.
"Everyone found the workshop useful. I'm already seeing a change in our letters."
